Marlene Raymakers

Born in Vorarlberg, Austria, and living in Berlin for four years, I combine elegance and comfort with a sustainable vision in my designs. I love creating timeless fashion that captivates through clean lines and subtle details. For me, sewing is an art form, and it fulfills me to see my creations on confident, strong-willed individuals who use them to accentuate their personalities. My mushroom collection and bioplastic project have generated significant interest and demonstrate my passion for innovative, environmentally friendly fashion. The design process is strongly inspired by nature, and my goal is to create fashion that is aesthetic, sustainable, and reflective. I invite you to join me in shaping the future of fashion.

Mycelium interwoven

“Mycelium Interwoven: The Networked Future of Mushrooms and Fashion” is a collection that subtly integrates mycelium, a living organism, into fashion through biodesign. The collection draws inspiration from the dynamic and experimental aesthetics of the 1980s, combined with the unique structure of fungi – a material not used in fashion at that time. The concept takes a clear stance: it values fungi as a renewable resource that can be cultivated without exploiting natural resources. Controlled cultivation of mushroom cultures supports sustainable production and avoids harming ecological cycles. The “Mycelium Interwoven” concept aims to reflect the invisible but omnipresent connection between humans and nature. Through the metaphorical mycelium as a network connecting trees and plants underground, a dialogue between fashion and biology is created. The designs are not only intended to be aesthetically pleasing but also to tell a story and raise awareness of the role of fungi as ecological actors.

Laboratory

In my Laboratory, experimentation takes center stage. Here, I research and develop new, sustainable design solutions by working with natural materials such as mushrooms. By dyeing with natural color pigments and cultivating fungi, I create innovative textile surfaces and experiment with new approaches for the fashion world. The Laboratory is my space for biodesign and material research – a place where I constantly try out new ideas and redefine the boundaries of conventional fabrics. Each visit offers an insight into my current projects and the exciting developments in the field of sustainable fashion.
